Applied Materials Solar SunFab: By the Numbers

820000 quarter sized equivalent photovoltaic (PV) modules?

With “KSK Surya Photovoltaic Venture Selects SunFab Solar Panel Production Lines for 150MW Project in India”, Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) ended an almost one year three month drought since the last SunFab deal with Moncada Energy Group s.r.l. per “Moncada Enters Solar Energy Market with Contract for Applied Materials' SunFab Thin Film Line”. Should this be viewed as a positive sign of at least a slow recovery from the Great Recession and credit crunch? Perhaps a better question is how have Applied Materials SunFab customers fared to date? In “VLSI Research ranks Top 10 PV Manufacturing Equipment Suppliers for 2008”, I didn’t calculate the MegaWatt-peak (MWp) cumulative production of Applied Materials SunFab customers. At Intersolar

Intersolar North America

[San Francisco, California USA] Observing the obvious. I managed to spend some time at Intersolar North America 2009 this week in San Francisco. Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) From Intersolar North America The big news was US President Barack Obama somehow finding the time to visit Applied Materials before the Major League Baseball 2009 All-Star Game in St. Louis, Missouri. A crowd formed to understand how AMAT is driving down cost per watt. From Intersolar North America Solyndra, Inc. I noticed Michael Kanellos take a cameraperson over to

VLSI Research ranks Top 10 PV Manufacturing Equipment Suppliers for 2008

Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) leads the pack on revenues. Oerlikon Solar customers rule actual amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film module production. In Top 10 Suppliers of PV Manufacturing Equipment Worldwide for 2008, VLSI Research Inc. named Applied Materials the number one worldwide PV (Photovoltaic) equipment supplier for 2008 with $797 million in estimated revenues for both crystalline silicon equipment and SunFab thin film production lines. Now, just since Oerlikon Solar, a business unit of OC Oerlikon Corporation AG (VTX:OERL), was named number one in VLSI Research’s The Top

Summer Solstice: Think Global, Photovoltaics Local

Applied Materials Dispelling and Creating Solar Myths in the United States. As is often the case, I first saw this Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) press release: “In Light” of Summer Solstice, Americans Call for More Solar Energy Applied Materials Dispels Solar Technology Myths and Sets Path for More Renewable Energy Use mentioned in the Chip Shots blog by Tom Cheyney at PV-tech.org as “Exuberance and ignorance: Survey finds mixed bag of solar-power knowledge among Americans (revised)”. The Summer Solstice Survey,

Intersolar 2009: My Photovoltaic Top 10 List

[Munich, Germany] Photovoltaic power electronics are hot! Clocking in with 1417 exhibitors covering 104000 square meters across nine halls and an outdoor area, I was competing with about 60000 visitors to capture my unfair share of Intersolar 2009 over three days at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. Given the massive size and my ongoing hiatus recovery, I could have used another day to investigate more stands. With that caveat, here are my subjective views of the best Intersolar 2009 had to offer mimicking the Late Show with David Letterman format. A Picasa slideshow of the Photovoltaic Top 10 List is displayed at the

Photovoltaics at SEMICON West 2007

Photovoltaics outshine the semi biz

Although SEMICON West 2007 wound down on July 20, 2007, I am just getting to pointing out presentations and providing multimedia about the programs, events, and exhibition. Here is the official SEMICON West 2007 Post-Show Report.

When I was looking for presentations from the keynotes and TechXPOTs from SEMICON West to be placed online based on a tip from an organizer, I stumbled upon this post Nano, MEMS and Energy Presentations Available on semiconwest.org! on the lublog.

Instead of linking to the abstracts, the titles now link to the presentations. There is

Solar Light Flashes: July 22, 2007

Select Photovoltaic News Tidbits

Intersolar 2007 and 2006 California Clean Tech Open (CCTO) companies have dominated Blog coverage over the past month. It’s time to get back to covering staple companies and topics although there are follow up Intersolar 2007 and PV Industry Forum 2007 posts plus SEMICON West coverage in the works.

Applied Materials:Applied Materials Names Chris Eberspacher to Lead Advanced Solar Research and Development lends support to the notion that things may not be so rosy at Nanosolar. Dr. Eberspacher left Nanosolar just over one month ago.

Solar Light Flashes: Intersolar 2007

[Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany]

Quick Photovoltaic News and Fun Tidbits from Intersolar 2007

Company News

SunPower (Stand No 10.2.83, NASDAQ:SPWR): SPR-315 delayed again!Since I posted Where is the SunPower SPR-315 Solar Module?, SPR-315 deliveries have been rescheduled for Fall 2007, almost one year since the product was announced at Solar Power 2006. A company spokesperson indicated the delay may be related to filling backlog for legacy SPR solar modules. I prefer the conspiracy theory that the new Gen 2 solar cells or the larger module form factor is the root cause. SunPower claims to be taking SPR-315… Read More >>

Applied Materials Solar shuts out Oerlikon Solar 3:0

Applied Materials builds thin film photovoltaic production equipment lead in the first quarter of 2007

In advance of the PHOTON Expo, I was expecting new polysilicon production facility and supplier agreements to lead the photovoltaic headlines. But the real news may be on the production equipment front.

Since the Solar division of OC Oerlikon Corporation AG (VTX:OERL) won this CHF 320 million order from Saudi investor backed German API GmbH, Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) has been on the thin film photovoltaic offensive.

Things got rolling on February 7, 2007, with Applied Materials Names Winfried
