Photovoltaic Conference and Exhibition Preview 2010

Significant photovoltaic (PV) conferences and events in 2010. Suffering from PV conference overload?

In chronological order, here are the PV conferences I am interested in following or covering in 2010. As in the past, my focus remains technical conferences and business to business trade shows, not regional marketing or sales events. I am biased towards the United States and Europe and really need to branch out and explore events in Asia and Japan. Maybe I will find an opportunity in 2010. Read More >>

SPI 09: Concentrating PhotoVoltaics Highlights

CPV News from MASDAR trumps Solar Power International 09.

I was looking forward to the SPI 09 Concentrating Photovoltaics (CPV) session moderated by Greentech Media Senior Analyst Eric Wesoff. For once, I had a few questions prepared in advance. When I sat down, I thought I was being mercenary sitting right next to the microphone front and center. However, as questions were opened to the floor, I still had to rush to beat out two other inquisitors to ask the first question.

SolFocus, Inc. Q: Ed Gunther (moi!) said: “I have a question for Mr. Crowley. I was wondering if you could give us an update on the project with the Samaras Group. I believe it was supposed to start installing in the summer, and there’s supposed be power delivery by

SPI 09: SEIA declares independence with “Solar Bill of Rights”

Many rights recognize and support residential and distributed solar installations. Invoking the power of positive language to critique Amendments 5 and 6.

In his Solar Power International 09 keynote, SEIA President Rhone Resch Challenges Solar Industry to Unite, Fight for "Solar Bill of Rights", Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) President and CEO Rhone Resch said: So let’s make today solar’s Fourth of July —the day we declare our independence from policies that prevent greater use of solar energy which Americans so urgently need. Today, we’re declaring a Solar Bill of Rights. Solar Bill of Rights To secure a policy environment that allows solar energy to compete and empowers consumers to choose, Rhone Resch declared today, October 27, 2009, in the City of Anaheim, California, a Solar Bill of Read More >>

SoloPanel SFX1 – Series flexible photovoltaic module

I wasn’t the first with SoloPower module photos (PHOTOS: What’s Hot At Solar Power International 2009 by Katie Fehrenbacher at Earth2Tech), but my approach tends to be thorough. Following a Solyndra strategy (who had their first exhibition stand), SoloPower had one of their flexible module samples seeded in the 3M stand at Solar Power International 09 (SPI 09) along with a datasheet and the occasional SoloPower representative. “SoloPower Displays CIGS PV Module Prototype in 3M Booth #377 at Solar Power International Conference” set the stage for media, competitors, and customers to

Photovoltaic Conference and Exhibition Preview 2009

Significant photovoltaic conferences and events in 2009. In chronological order, here are the conferences I am interested in following or covering in 2009. Given that visibility thing, I’m not making plans beyond PHOTON’s Technology Show. As last year (Part 2 update), my focus remains technical conferences and business to business trade shows, not regional marketing or sales events. However, I am still considering smaller technical conferences in lieu of the larger mega events because of repetitive content. There is little location alignment among the eleven events although the San Francisco Bay area and Munich have two events each.

GreenVolts CarouSol debuts at Solar Power International 2008

[San Diego, California USA] Can’t Photo (Touch) This! As suggested in my Solar Power International 2008 Preview post, GreenVolts, Inc., did indeed display a CarouSol unit for the first time, and a sparse CarouSol datasheet is also available. On Tuesday, October 14, 2008, right after the Expo opened at 10AM, I headed straight to the GreenVolts stand to check out their exhibit. I was not disappointed to see a crowd gawking at a complete GreenVolts CarouSol unit. Up close, my first photo was of the receiver unit
