I was looking forward to the SPI 09 Concentrating Photovoltaics (CPV) session moderated by Greentech Media Senior Analyst Eric Wesoff. For once, I had a few questions prepared in advance. When I sat down, I thought I was being mercenary sitting right next to the microphone front and center. However, as questions were opened to the floor, I still had to rush to beat out two other inquisitors to ask the first question.

Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) Showcase project using SolFocus has an installed cost of $6.04 per Watt (W).
When I first saw “SolFocus Receives Award from National Renewable Energy Laboratory”, I missed the subheading, “City of Mesa, Arizona to Serve as First Showcase of Technology Developed in the DOE/NREL PV Incubator Program”.
Only later in Google Alerts did I notice “Solar Panels to Produce Power, Boost Local Economy” which states:
The City of Mesa announced an agreement with SolFocus, Inc. to build 11 concentrating photovoltaic solar arrays, which will help the City meet its energy needs, foster the development of solar technologies and invest in Mesa’s economy.

I noticed Michael Kanellos take a cameraperson over to
Ramping and Scaling Concentrator PhotoVoltaic (CPV) Systems. Expanding manufacturing from 0.5 MW (MegaWatt) in 2008, to over 10 MW shipped in 2009, and 50 MW capacity by 2011.
Well, it is clear anyone reporting on Tuesday’s “Haywood Dorland Energy Capital, LLC, Invests in SolFocus, Inc., the Leading Developer of Advanced Concentrator PV Solar Technologies” didn’t do their due diligence.
Today with “SolFocus Raises over $77 Million in Series C Funding”, SolFocus Inc. said it closed the Series C round. About six months ago on January 8, 2009, with “SolFocus Raises $47.5M for Concentrating PV Solar” by Katie Fehrenbacher at Earth2Tech, SolFocus announced the

Last week, I noticed Stay Tuned! by Art Lebermann in the KGO Solar Blog chronicling the assembly and installation of the SolFocus, Inc., CPV (Concentrating PhotoVoltaic) solar arrays. Per SolFocus today, the inspections by the city of Fremont should be completed this week and then the solar arrays can go live.

Back on February 12, 2008, KGO RADIO LAUNCHES SOLAR POWER ACTION PLAN announced a joint project between KGO Radio and PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG) to power KGO Radio’s transmitter with two (2) solar power systems. KGO Radio’s transmitter is located here on the eastern side of the Dumbarton Bridge in the San Francisco Bay area.
