[Las Vegas, Nevada USA]
Amonix Concentrated PhotoVoltaic (CPV) Solar Systems are sprouting up like sunflowers in the Las Vegas area.
The ~460 kiloWatt Amonix Pecos Solar Power Generation Station is being installed across from the Amonix manufacturing facility.

On a triangular parcel of land located directly across the street from the Amonix, Inc., North Las Vegas manufacturing facility, Amonix is in the process of installing six (6) of seven (7) Amonix CPV solar power systems with a total gross output capacity of 0.46 MW (MegaWatt) AC according to an NV Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NVE) regulatory filing with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN). I took the inset photos of the installation including a pole ready for the seventh system at the main entrance to the Amonix facility. Building permits have been issued by the City of North Las Vegas for up to ten (10) total Amonix systems at the Pecos Station.

After creating a Google Map with all the Amonix CPV systems in and around Las Vegas, I stumbled upon two more development projects in the same NV Energy regulatory Technical Appendix. The first project, the CNLV Solar Power Generation Station, has a total gross output capacity of 1.0 MW AC from fourteen (14) systems to be located at the City of North Las Vegas – Water Reclamation Facility. Each CPV system at CNLV would have a total gross output capacity of around 71.4 kW for the expected 950 W/m2 (Watts per meter squared) DNI (direct normal irradiance) conditions here.

The second project, the SCGC Solar Power Generation Station, has a total gross output capacity of 0.58 MW AC from eight (8) systems located on about three (3) acres at the Shadow Creek Golf Course also in North Las Vegas, Nevada. I understand this project is lagging behind CNLV in development.
Here are the Amonix systems deployed earlier in the extended Las Vegas area in reverse chronological order.
Amonix has a test system at the North Las Vegas Manufacturing facility.

Six (6) Amonix CPV solar systems were installed at the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) in nearby Henderson. Please see Harry Reid turns on Amonix Concentrated Photovoltaic Solar Plant for further details.

Amonix 7500 and 7700 CPV systems were installed at the UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) Center for Energy Research in 2008 and 2009. One Amonix 7700 MegaModule has been outfitted with Enphase microinverters I presume to evaluate energy yield relative to the standard Solectria Renewables inverter integrated with Amonix CPV systems. UNLV had an earlier Amonix IHCPV (Integrated High-Concentration Photovoltaic) system using silicon solar cells installed in 2004 before the Amonix 7500 system upgrade.

These Amonix CPV systems will be staying in Vegas and more photos can be viewed in the following Picasa slideshow.
Now that they’ve been in the field a fraction of the time necessary to pay for themselves, how are they performing?
